3rd edition of the Les Femmes s’exposent festival

Despite the health crisis, the 3rd edition of the Les Femmes s’exposent festival is being maintained. Initially inaugurated in June, this year the event will open its doors to the public in Houlgate, from August 7 and will be extended until September 25. The program brings together 14 exhibitions including that of the godmother Christine Spengler.

Photographer: the profession has been suffering violently for years from the press crisis and what results from it – plummeting budgets, falling orders, lower and lower prices, payments that drag on shamefully…

Photographer: therefore, an increasingly precarious profession, and worrying situations. The Covid-19 crisis completes the picture and will leave a large number of professionals in the lurch. It is currently almost impossible to work; orders and departures abroad are canceled; payments remain pending. Many no longer have an income. The world of photography is suffering.

Confinement reinforces inequalities. The absence of women photographers in certain media is alarming. And then, during this period, women, single mothers or not, are, as too often still, the first to manage housekeeping, children, their duties, etc. There are few moments to get involved in work and explore new avenues.

I dreamed of a generous 2020, but the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis will be catastrophic. They already are. Photographer: a profession whose future is more in danger than ever.

The whole world is impacted by the virus. Several festivals had to cancel their 2020 edition, we are thinking of them. However, we are keen to maintain, for its third edition, the “Les femmes s’exposent” festival: the exhibitions are outdoors, and we hope, that the gradual easing of confinement will allow us to see the public again this summer.

The festival continues its friendly momentum, always offering various photographic writings to reveal the creativity of professional women photographers. The exhibitions will, we hope, reach a wide audience, but also informed amateurs and professionals.

This festival was not built in opposition to men and our colleagues. It exists to try to repair, to compensate for the lack of visibility of women. And generate new talents. For more equality, to allow the plurality of perspectives to live which enriches everyone.
