Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Douce d’Ivry
Self-taught photographer, Douce d’Ivry always strives to forge a strong bond with her environment or the person she is photographing, in order to draw out the most beautiful stories. At the frontier between fashion and reportage, her photographs bear witness to vibrant, colourful moments. Her experience in production and her love of street photography help her to create carefully staged shots while retaining a certain spontaneity. Douce began her career in music and advertising in Paris, London and Singapore before moving full-time into fashion and reportage photography in Hong Kong. Now back in France, she continues to travel regularly for various photographic projects. Her work has been featured in local and international newspapers (Dailymail, Hong Kong Free Press, Vogue, Madame Figaro Hong Kong, CreativeBoom, Apple…) and described as “a collection of poetic and surprising moments” Oct 2019 Fisheye Magazine.
« Slow Life »
Intrigued by the snails she used to collect when she was younger, photographer Douce d’Ivry regularly enjoys putting gastropods in the spotlight. What started out as a nod to the importance of adopting a slower pace of life has developed into a much bigger photographic project. Indeed, she has subsequently integrated other insects into her compositions. For each shot Douce sets the scene, but gastropods and insects remain the masters of their movement, and she often has to be patient and adapt to them to best capture these scenes that are both natural and unreal. Reflections of clouds in a mirror, an assortment of plants or accessories, insects move at their own pace and become the central element of her creations. The photographer also uses her iPhone to film all these marvellous creatures wandering among her compositions. This hobby of photographing insects has enabled her to infuse a light, poetic touch into her shots with mannequins. The photographer likes to subtly create a dialogue between nature and the body, insects and women.
