Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Marine Leroy
Marine Leroy is a 29-year-old photographer born in Antibes and living in Paris. Professional changes in her family took her beyond the borders of France from a very young age. This is undoubtedly the trigger for her attraction to the Image and her desire to create links and memories by taking portraits of her close circle. Her return to her native region will only last two years. In fact, she left it, after obtaining her baccalaureate, to pursue literature studies at the Sorbonne from which she graduated with a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature Research in 2018. These five years will only amplify her desire to join a photography school, a goal she had set for herself since she was seventeen. In 2021, she was admitted to the Gobelins entrance exam for Photography-Video training. To obtain her diploma in June 2023, she presents the SEUM ISSUE photographic project in the form of a fashion magazine printed in A3 format. Today she is a Fashion, Beauty and Still Life photographer, areas in which she has complete freedom to express her sensitivity and perfect her artistic direction. The polished aesthetic of her images adds to the sobriety and elegance towards which she aims.
« On the Edge »
ON THE EDGE is an editorial series taken from her final study project entitled SEUM ISSUE. “Seum” is a word of Arabic origin that has entered our everyday language. Although the original meaning of the word is “venom”, it is mainly used today to describe a feeling of rage, frustration, sometimes jealousy or disgust. When something doesn’t work the way you imagined or planned and it’s really frustrating. So, this is it! But is seum really a problem? Can’t it be beautiful? ON THE EDGE is a series mixing fashion, beauty and still life that addresses this issue. A game of balance, in-betweenness and subtlety that can echo situations perceived as unpleasant in everyday life. Often, we experience these little failures as something annoying, shameful, and frankly not necessary. But ultimately, isn’t it in these moments that we need to let go and stop being on the edge? To appreciate beauty? And, to smile.
