The Les Filles de la Photo association has just revealed the names of the five winners of this second edition of the Mentoring who will benefit from follow-up with two professionals from the photography sector for a period of fifteen months. A restitution of the monitored project will be organized in November 2023 on the occasion of PhotoSaintGermain, a mentoring partner event. Picto Foundation is also renewing its support for this 2022 edition.
At the end of the call for projects launched at the beginning of last summer, the jury made up of 10 godmothers, members of the Filles de la Photo, selected 5 photographers from the 231 applications received. The jury was particularly attentive to the quality of the current project proposed, but also to the need for support of the artist.
The 5 finalists accompanied by their pair of godmothers are:
SARAH BRAECK
”IN BETWEEN”
“Underwater, there are forests that are not subject to the danger of fire.”
At a time when forests are burning, it becomes necessary to find an alternative capable of capturing the carbon emitted by our warming planet. A kelp forest, whether natural or cultivated, can capture as much carbon as its equivalent surface area of Amazonian/terrestrial forest. Algae also serves to preserve marine ecosystems by absorbing excess nitrogen and preventing the proliferation of toxic algae.
For this project, Sarah Braeck chose to collaborate with scientists from the Roscoff station in Brittany. She intervenes on photos of terrestrial forest fires with charred wood or flames. These images coexist with photographs of reworked algae forests which radiate and highlight the potential of these super plants and their environment.

ORIANNE CIANTAR
“MELANCHOLY OF DUSKS”
“What was it like to have a child? We think about death. When you have a child, you know that you will die one day.” But what happens when we lose it? “Melancholy of Twilight” explores the question of disappearance in a poetic and philosophical approach. In a dialogue between fear and reality, the intention develops itself as a research work on the content and the form within which eternity and the ephemeral are in tension.

CÉLESTE LEEUWENBURG

Catherine Ringer, Paris 2020.
“ELLA BAILA”
“Marcia opens her arms, she dances with legs as sharp as cleavers, Marcia saltaba en rondas, Marcia era bella….” Who is Marcia? Céleste Leeuwenburg, a Franco-Argentinian photographer, sets out to find her. Going in search of Marcia is going in search of her dance. Born in Argentina in 1949 and dead at the age of 36 in Paris, Marcia Moretto is a dancer; This is the Marcia that most French people know without knowing her, whose name they shout on the dance floor with the Marcia Baïla of Rita Mitsouko. The traces left by Marcia remain alive in stories and memories, but there are few recordings of her image and even fewer of her dance. Faced with this absence of traces of a singular and fascinating character, Céleste Leeuwenburg has been working since 2011 in search of a dance that has never been filmed.
Godmothers: Virginie Chardin (Exhibition curator, author, historian of photography)
Laurence Tordjman Levy (Agent and founder of the LT2 agency)
PAULINE ROUSSEAU

“HOMONYMA”
“I am brown, I have brown eyes, I am 164 cm tall, which corresponds exactly to the average height of women in France. I wear a size 38 and wear a size 38 in clothes, in both cases it is a standard size. In France, my first name, Pauline, is used by more than 130,000 people. My last name, Rousseau, is one of the 25 most common names. Therefore, it can be said that a certain banality defines me. My anthroponym: Pauline Rousseau, for its part, could become a common noun as it is so common. For her “Homonyma” project, Pauline Rousseau has started a work close to investigation since 2014 by setting out to meet “other Pauline Rousseaus”. It is a true search for oneself through others that she carries out in this project. She unexpectedly questions the intimate, names, the identity, magic, sorority and the presentation of the self.
Godmothers: Aurélia Marcadier (Director of Photography Saint Germain)
Isabelle Mocq (Director of art purchasing & producer – BETC)
ANAÏS OUDART

“THE EMBRACE”
This series will present cases of disguised prostitution, which Ukrainian refugees have been victims of, since the start of the conflict with Russia. Her photographic investigation will begin in France, where these women sometimes find themselves at the mercy of those who shelter them and help them. The project will then extend to Ukrainian territory, where they are subjected to rape, used as a weapon of war. “The Embrace” is a current social subject, which will provide information on the sexual violence inflicted on Ukrainian women in times of war. Anaïs Oudart will be accompanied by Médecins du monde and the SEMA Foundation for the realization of this project.
Godmothers: Adelaïde Samani (Production Manager – Konbini)
Léonor Matet (Iconographer and partnership manager – Polka Magazine)
