I met Yasmine in a bar. A sunny and smiling young woman. A year later, she contacted me and informed me that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer; I feel her resilience and positive attitude through her voice. She explains to me that she wants to do a shoot to accept her new look, I was delighted with her proposal and even more so with this session. Lots of energy and a visceral desire to move forward! It was difficult for us to choose a photo because they all expressed something valuable, but in this one, gratitude adorns her eyes and her smile.

ACCESSIT PRIZE: Clara Ceccarelli

« I remember the people who surrounded me, protected me, pampered me when the heart seeks elsewhere a source of peace. I remember the day when life exploded in my body again, a true healing of the spirit. I then felt like a woman right through to the end of the treatment, a woman right down to the tip of my breast. Little musical notes in mind, drops of water that slide and play with my fingers thanking life and all my people. Tenderness of the women and men encountered on my path to rebuild my future like a song of hope, like a promise of joy. Then this snapshot in a great burst of laughter to embrace the world and open the way for me. » —Christine

ACCESSIT PRIZE: Valérie Pinard

The photograph reflects the affirmation of the choice of a woman who refused the reconstruction of her body by transforming it into a work. With the help of his companion, the composition of the photograph was thought out by three people. The color was preferred for its contemporary character and in accordance with the “Gratitude” theme, bringing serenity, hope and the future. It is in these words that Alexandra wishes to raise public awareness among women affected by the disease: “Gratitude to these flowers tattooed on my new body transformed by cancer. Gratitude to my femininity and sensuality rediscovered by the magic of a hand that delicately placed these curves on my scar. Gratitude to this tattoo, my reconstruction, which allowed me to rediscover seduction, which makes me feel woman and beautiful, beautiful in the Amazon, beautiful under the hands of my lover. Gratitude to my benefactors, to Léa for her talent as a tattoo artist, to my loved one for being so beautiful in his eyes. »

« I’m Caroline. I lost my parents to cancer at 25, so I traveled the world for a year, alone. When I returned, my cancer was there, hormone-dependent, very aggressive. Another adventure begins. There were two phases. First, fear. Of dying, of not being able to get there. Then acceptance: understanding that my mother’s cancer is not mine and that I am not responsible. Gratitude comes from others. I have a lot of admiration for the photographers who accompanied me. They sublimated my fears. We worked together on the view of cancer, telling the story with a lot of poetry, sensitivity, and femininity. It’s thanks to them that I see the disease differently. To my parents. I remember from my mother her smile, her strength, her combativeness in the face of adversity even after four recurrences, this ability to always get back up. From my father, his humor and his self-deprecation. Always see the positive side and enjoy life. More than ever, you are with me. »
