Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Flaminia Reposi
Flaminia Reposi was born in 1995 in Rome, an important and enriching cultural center that gave life to her passion for art. Her arrival in Paris in 2013 opened up new horizons for her, leading her to make still images and moving images her center of study. Wishing to reconcile these two disciplines, Flaminia Reposi joined a film school in Paris where she trained in framing and lighting, then a Masters in photography. In her work, the photographer is inspired by surrealism, pop art, and dreamlike. These aspects result in colorful images that are both poetic and offbeat, where the subjects reflect her inner reveries and images. Youth, femininity, and the body are also subjects often covered by the photographer. Flaminia Reposi has participated in several group exhibitions, was a resident at Fabrica Research Center, finalist at the Prix Picto de la Mode 2019, exhibited at the Bnf as “Coup de Coeur” of the 2019 Talent Exchange in the Fashion and Transversality section and first photo prize at the Biennale d’Arte Contemporanea di Salerno in 2021.
« Anatomy of a lamp, or just turn me on »
“Anatomy of a Lamp, or just turn me on”, visually explores the theme of female desire. Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise: this great biblical myth, a parable of curiosity as a human sin, would especially weigh heavily on women, by implying the supposedly diabolical character of female desire. In the 19th century, sexology relayed to the Church to decide between good and evil under the aspects of health and pathology. A woman is not supposed to express her desire, but only signify it through a look, a gesture, an attitude. Although the discourse on female pleasure has evolved considerably nowadays, it nevertheless remains a taboo subject. Either the woman is often reduced to the status of object of desire, or the desiring woman is associated with the figure of the seductive vamp. By adopting an aesthetic of its own, Flaminia Reposi wishes to highlight this feminine desire, and reconcile in a playful and ironic way the woman as an object of desire. desire and as desiring subject. In her series Anatomy of a Lamp, or just turn me on, the artist uses a simple catalog device, and transforms his models into everyday objects: lamps. Through work on styling, colors and staging, Flaminia freezes her subjects while drawing attention to these women-lamps capable of lighting up at any moment, as the video also demonstrates.
