Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Flore Prébay

Flore Prébay is a photographer from Paris, born in 1998. She obtained her Bachelor of Photography in 2020, then in 2021 she opened her photo studio in Malakoff, the Dépoli studio. A visual production studio open for rental. She began fashion photography with committed and inclusive brands and then photography became a medium for a visual practice. She is interested in painting on prints, developing a personal and poetic practice. She creates her painted backgrounds in the studio by hand to be able to touch the material directly and be part of a visual approach. Obsessed with the body, its condition, its ailments and how society perceives it, she makes it one of her main subjects. In 2023 she is a finalist for the Picto Prize for Fashion Photography with her series “Illusion”, on dysmorphophobia. Her photographic practice becomes a window open to a distorted, blurred, colorful and illusory world. After several years of experimenting her pictorial and colorful vision comes to life.

“It is a poetic ballad between fashion photography, sensation and floating. I mix different mediums: photography and painting. I capture the scene in long exposure then I print my photos which I repaint with watercolor and finally I retouch them digitally. I also paint my studio backgrounds by hand. I really enjoy the creative time, the photography comes to life, the colors guide my work and are added in layers. What is important for me is to intervene on each photograph manually. I give myself the opportunity to interpret the colors and give life to an imaginary world. In this series I deliver my vision that we can have of a moment. I wanted to question movement and different points of view to create strange images with silhouettes and suggested outfits. Sometimes we are lost between photography and painting and it is the assembly of the two which allows us to create a dreamlike world. From this colorful representation emanates a certain melancholy.”
