BEING A WOMAN PHOTOGRAPHER by Jane Evelyn Atwood, 2019 patron of the festival
“I never think of myself in those terms. It’s the others who tell me:
“You are a woman photographer” Often, I am associated with subjects that deal with women, but I do not limit myself to that. I am not sectarian even if, yes obviously, I defend women’s rights.
I don’t like being considered a female photographer who takes photos of women. This may seem strange, but I can’t yet think of myself as a photographer even if I can no longer imagine my life without photography.
What happened was that I met people, I saw situations and I needed to know them up close. Photography appeared to me as a way to get closer to them. »
Excerpt from the book “Jane Evelyn Atwood”, by Christine Delory-Momberger (Just Between Us collection, Ed. André Frère).
