The Picto Fashion Photography Award (Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode) has been a benchmark award for emerging talent in the field of fashion since 1998, with three prizes awarded each year : the first prize, The Picto Fashion Photography Award with the support of Leica, le19M Métiers d’Art Photography grant, given to a photographer who will collaborate with specialist companies grouped together by le19M, Chanel Métiers d’Art, a new site conceived and designed by CHANEL, dedicated to the fashion crafts in Paris-Aubervilliers, and the Filippo Roversi grant, highlighting the originality of specific technical expertise with the support of photographer Paolo Roversi. The Palais Galliera, Musée de la mode de la Ville de Paris, hosts the award ceremony and opens its collection to the winners. In 2021, the Photo Festival St Barth Art Week joined the Picto Fashion Photography Award, inviting one of the winners to exhibit alongside great photographers and to enjoy an artist residency in St Barth.

History of the Award

The Picto Fashion Photography Award was initiated in 1998 by the PICTO laboratory to support fashion photographers under 35 years of age, help young talent to start their careers and gain recognition. The prize has revealed talented photographers who now have an international career: Louis Decamps (1998), Sofia & Mauro (2002), Marjolijn de Groot (2003), Kourtney Roy (2007) and Charlotte Abramow (2014).

The Picto Fashion Photography Award has evolved rapidly, thanks to its partners and the new jurors from the world of fashion, luxury, advertising, art and photography. In 2013, the award began to open up to the international scene and has had international winners such as Alice Pavesi Fiori (Italy), Ting Ting Wang (China), Laurent Henrion (Belgium), Chiron Duong (Vietnam) and Lucie Khahoutian (Armenia). Since 2014, the prize has been awarded to three photographers each year.

In 2016, the Picto Fashion Photography Award joined Picto Foundation’s programmes. A new dimension was given to the award, offering special insight into the work of the winning photographers who enter the endowment fund collections. In 2017, the Picto Prize for Fashion Photography saw the arrival of a new prestigious partner, the Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris. Since 2020, 19M, which brings together Chanel’s Métiers d’Art, and the photographer Paolo Roversi, have accompanied the Picto Fashion Photography Award in presenting two prestigious awards.

FIRST PRIZE: PICTO FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY MAIN AWARD

- A LEICA SL3-Scamera with an SL 24-70 mm lens.
- The production of an exhibition worth €2,000.
- The opportunity to join the public collections of the Palais Galliera.
- An endowment of €500 with the support of the Saif.

SECOND PRIZE: le19M MÉTIERS D'ART PHOTOGRAPHY GRANT

- A photographic commission worth €5,000, produced on behalf of la Galerie du 19M, in collaboration with one of the resident houses of le19M, place of Fashion and Decoration Crafts in Paris-Aubervilliers.
- The opportunity to join the public collections of the Palais Galliera.
- An endowment of €500 with the support of the Saif.

THIRD PRIZE: FILIPPO ROVERSI GRANT

- A portfolio reading with Paolo Roversi.
- A signed print by Paolo Roversi.
- A €1,000 production grant from PICTO.
- The opportunity to join the public collections of the Palais Galliera.
- An endowment of €500 with the support of the Saif.

FOURTH PRIZE : LGA MANAGEMENT / JANVIER ENDOWMENT

– Personalised mentoring with the LGA Management agency (6 coaching sessions to access the market step by step)
– Post-production retouching sessions to optimise the portfolio, for film and photo production, with the JANVIER Digital Photographic Laboratory.
– The opportunity to join the public collections of the Palais Galliera.
– An endowment of €500 with the support of the Saif.

With the support of Studio Daguerre, a long-standing partner of the Picto Fashion Photography Award, a day in the studio is being offered to each of the four laureates.
